Blue Demons go 1-1 on opening weekend
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - After opening the spring season with a come from behind victory over Green Bay on Friday, DePaul couldn't duplicate that success against Big Ten adversary Minnesota.
The Blue Demons fell 7-0 to a Minnesota team that finished No. 37 in the ITA national poll last season and advanced to the round of 16 in the 2018 NCAA tournament.
The Gophers got off to a quick start with a sweep of the doubles matches to claim an early 1-0 advantage.Â
Minnesota closed out the match with a clean sweep in singles action despite Boris Spanjaard at No. 1 singles, Vito Tonejc at No. 2, Tripp Tuff at No. 4, and Fran Tonejc at No. 5 clinching set victories in a hard fought effort to secure points for the Blue Demons.Â
Head coach Matt Brothers and DePaul (1-1) will look to get back in the win column with a matchup at Wisconsin on Friday Jan. 25.
