DePaul Wins Seven of Nine Matches at WMU Fall Invite

Avgeri leads the way with a singles win and a pair of doubles triumphs
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – There's nothing like racking up a bunch of wins on the first day of a tournament.
Led by Aspasia Avgeri's singles triumph and a pair of doubles victories, DePaul left its mark Friday at the WMU Fall Invite.
Avgeri topped host Western Michigan's Lindsey Zieglar 6-2, 6-1 and teamed up with Marija Jovicic to beat Iowa's Michelle Bacalla and Cloe Ruette 6-3 and the Broncos' Kristina Tiraspolsky and Gabriela Slavova by the same score.
Fresh off her success at the prestigious ITA All-American Championships this week in Tulsa, Okla., Yuliya Kizelbasheva opened with a 4-6, 7-6 (4), 10-4 decision over Bacalla.
Maddie Yergler followed suit knocking off Western Michigan's Nicole Clark 6-4, 7-6 (4) at the West Hills Athletic Club.
Kizelbasheva's doubles partner at the ITA tournament Lenka Antonijevic won her singles opener 4-6, 7-6 (3), 10-5 over UIC's Izzy Marshall.
The lone singles setback occurred when Jovicic fell to Logan White of Butler 6-1, 6-3 as the Blue Demons went 4-1.
Antonijevic and Jovicic who won four consecutive doubles matches in Tulsa before bowing out of the tournament against No. 2 North Carolina were victorious in their WMU doubles debut 6-3 over the Broncos' Femke Tjon-A-Joe and Tiraspolsky for their fifth win in the last six matches. They came up short 6-1 to Iowa's Bacalla and Ruette in the second round of doubles to give DePaul a 3-1 doubles mark.
