Avgeri is unbeaten this weekend as DePaul is a combined 15-3 in singles and doubles
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The wins just keep on coming for the DePaul women's tennis team.
The Blue Demons racked up a combined singles and doubles record of 8-1 Saturday in the round-robin WMU Fall Invite at Western Michigan.
Aspasia Avgeri has yet to taste defeat in Kalamazoo after outlasting Iowa's Michelle Bacalla 6-1, 1-6, 10-3 and sweeping her doubles matches for a second-straight day. She teamed with Marija Jovicic to down Jeryn Jack and Valerie Reigraf of Western Michigan 6-4 and defeated Butler's Nina Bertino and Roxanne Mackenzie 6-1.
That means the DePaul senior has won all six of her matches so far this weekend.
Coach Marisa Arce's team went a combined 8-1 on Saturday including a 4-0 sweep in doubles.
Freshman Yuliya Kizelbasheva topped Femke Tjon-A-Joe (WMU) 2-6, 6-1, 10-6 while Lenka Antonijevic beat Butler's Bertino 6-0, 6-2. Maddie Yergler won her singles match Saturday 6-0, 6-3 against Western Michigan's Gabriela Slavova.
In doubles, Kizelbasheva and Antonijevic knocked off Nicole Clark and Anika Tylek (WMU) 6-4 before going 2-for-2 with a 6-0 shutout over Butler's Logan White and Emily Neal.
For the weekend, Kizelbasheva and Antonijevic each have a 5-1 mark in singles and doubles play. After the first two days of competition, DePaul is a combined 15-3 (8-2 in singles and 7-1 in doubles).
