Avgeri Goes Undefeated at WMU Fall Invite

Blue Demon senior wins all seven singles and doubles matches at weekend tournament
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The DePaul women's tennis team concluded a highly successful weekend Sunday at the WMU Fall Invite.
Once again leading the way was Aspasia Avgeri who prevailed 6-4, 7-5 over Logan White of Butler. That gave the senior from Athens, Greece a perfect 7-0 record in the round-robin tournament hosted by Western Michigan.
Avgeri came home with a pristine 3-0 mark in singles and 4-0 in doubles combining with Marija Jovicic.
Freshman Yuliya Kizelbasheva from Armavir, Russia knocked off Izzy Marshall of UIC 6-2, 6-4 in posting a 3-0 singles mark for the weekend. She teamed with Lenka Antonijevic to go 3-1 in doubles, giving Kizelbasheva an overall record of 6-1 at the tournament.
Sophomore Maddie Yergler finished strong in Sunday's final round with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Butler's Nina Bertino for her third consecutive singles victory..
Coach Marisa Arce's team went a combined 18-5 at the WMU Invite, concluding with an 11-4 mark in singles play and 7-1 in doubles.
The Blue Demons will ride this wave of momentum right into the ITA Midwest Regional beginning Thursday in East Lansing, Mich.
