Avgeri Wins Twice at ITA Midwest Regional Championship

Winning streak is at seven as Avgeri one win away from qualifying for main draw
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Aspasia Avgeri's singles winning streak is at seven after a quick start Thursday at the ITA Midwest Regional Championship.
Avgeri won both of her matches in the qualifying draw and needs one more on Friday to advance onto the main draw.
The senior from Athens, Greece defeated Claire Czerwonka of Valparaiso 6-1, 6-1 and kept her streak going with a 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 victory over Marquette's Natalija Popovic.
Standing in the way of Avgeri and the main draw is a Friday morning showdown with sixth-seeded Dagmar Zdrubecka of Michigan State on her home court.
Maddie Yergler won her fourth in a row with a 6-2, 7-6 decision over Karla Contreras of Eastern Illinois. But the sophomore dropped her second-round match 6-0, 6-2 to Northwestern's Vanessa Streng.
Marija Jovicic lost to Akron's Anna Uljanov 7-5, 6-1 and bounced back in a consolation match victory 6-3, 1-0 (retired) over Bowling Green's Joanna Tsadari.
