Canadian guard to join program next season
CHICAGO – DePaul head coach Dave Leitao announced today that Kobe Elvis will join the program starting with the 2020-21 season after completing the necessary paperwork during the recent signing period. Elvis is a 6-2 guard from Brampton, Ontario, that is ranked among the top players in Canada.
"Kobe Elvis is a scoring guard that is improving as a facilitator every day," said Leitao. "Kobe has a great family and support staff which fits our culture at DePaul. We are looking forward to having him join our program and having an immediate impact."
Elvis is averaging 23.2 points, 5.0 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game in his first five games of the season at Bill Crothers Prep. He turned in a 30-point game on Nov. 19 and scored 29 points in his last game on Nov. 20.
A season ago, Elvis was named the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA) Player of the Year after averaging 28.0 points and 4.7 assists per game at Southwest Academy. He led the OSBA in scoring while shooting over .500 from the field .350 from three-point range. The OSBA features some of the top players in Canada including recent NBA draft picks Ignas Brazdeikis and Thon Maker. Both players were named OSBA MVP before Elvis earned the honor in 2019.
Elvis put together a strong summer that saw him named the Most Outstanding Player at the 17U Under Armour Rise Championship Bracket and All-UA Rise First Team. Elvis played on the UA circuit with the Northern Kings. He also played for UPLAY Canada in the Nike EYBL and averaged 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists in four games.
