DePaul Takes Down UTRGV

CORPUS CHRISTI – The DePaul men's tennis team bounced back in a big way in Friday night's second round match of the H-E-B Tournament of Champions.

The Blue Demons posted a 4-2 win over the Vaqueros of Texas-Rio Grande Valley on the courts of the H-E-B Tennis Center.

Singles matches were played first with doubles action played only if necessary.

DePaul (7-5, 2-0) claimed victories on four of the six singles courts to claim the win over UTRGV.

Christopher Casati got the Blue Demons rolling first with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No 4 over Clément Sarradin.

Fran Tonejc secured the second DePaul point of the night with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 5 to top Gerogije Babic.

Luuk Wassenaar put the Blue Demons ahead 3-2 with a gritty 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 triumph at No. 3 to best George Hutchings.

Vito Tonejc clinched the match for the Blue Demons with continued excellence at the No. 1 position to claim a 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 win against the Vaqueros' Samuel de Felipe Garcia.

DePaul will close out the H-E-B Tournament of Champions on Saturday at 10 a.m. as the Blue Demons take on tournament hosts, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi (11-4), with 5th place on the line.
