Inductees cherish their time as a Blue Demon on Hall of Fame Weekend
CHICAGO – The best and the brightest of DePaul Athletics was celebrated on Saturday night when eight individuals and one team were inducted into the DePaul Athletics Hall of Fame.
The Class of 2019 features Andre Brown (men's basketball), Tawona Alhaleem Hicks (women's basketball), Liz Bouck Jagielski (softball), Kris Booker Rastrelli (women's basketball), Carey Ryan (men's track and field), Mel Searles (men's tennis), Lance Williams (men's basketball), the 1986 women's cross-country team and Kevin McCann, recipient of the Dr. Robert Hamilton Special Service Award.
The cross-country team was a lively, energetic bunch of former student-athletes who genuinely enjoyed reuniting and reliving fond memories of their days training at the Lincoln Park Zoo and warming up inside the Lion House.
That team won the first conference title in DePaul history after out-running the field at the North Star Conference Championship.
The Blue Demons who made history were Beata Kielar Benavides, Audrey Lichtenfeld Benes, Lori Pascoe Camplin, Kim Wilkeson Harper, Shawn Kavanaugh Hellebuyck, Gloria Kuiken Iverson, Erin Ahern Klancnik, Colleen Thomas Marlowe, Patti O'Connell, Anne Kuiken Popek and coach John Caldow. Assistant coach Karl Schaeflein passed away in 1990.
Compelling and heartfelt video acceptance speeches were shown for each of the inductees during the banquet and ceremony at McGrath-Phillips Arena. Two themes that resonated throughout the night were the university's mission of providing an education for first-generation college students and the reassuring, welcoming family atmosphere of the athletics program.

The Hall of Fame weekend was highlighted by the Blue Demon men's basketball team defeating Providence on Saturday afternoon with the Class of 2019 being introduced to the Wintrust Arena crowd at halftime.
The induction ceremony followed later that evening and there was a Hall of Fame Memorial Service on Sunday morning. That afternoon, the inductees were introduced to the boisterous McGrath-Arena crowd that watched the Blue Demons' inspiring comeback fall just short against No. 8/9 Marquette.
