Men's Tennis Downs Xavier

CINCINNATTI -- The DePaul men's tennis team started fast and finished strong on Friday afternoon en route to a 5-2 win over BIG EAST foe Xavier.

The Blue Demons brought the firepower early on the courts of the Eastern Hills Tennis Club to clinch the doubles point and take a 1-0 match lead. Doubles tandem of Luuk Wassenaar and Conor O'Meara sparked DePaul with a 6-3 win over Jan Vrba and Michael Lee at No. 3. Boris Spanjaard and Christopher Casati continued the momentum with a 6-4 victory over Brett Winters and Jack Dykema.

In singles action, Wassenaar continued the momentum for DePaul at No. 3 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Xavier's Matthew Graft.

Chris Casati earned the Blue Demon's a 3-0 match advantage with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph at No. 5 against Jan Vrba.

Fran Tonejc extended his dual season win streak to four matches with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at the No. 4 position over Connor LaFavre, while Vito Tonjec closed out the match for the Blue Demons at No. 1 by a mark of 7-5, 6-4 to top Brett Winters.

Up next, DePaul (8-6, 3-0 BIG EAST) travels to Milwaukee for a meeting with Marquette on Saturday at 7 p.m.
