DePaul Begins Quest for BIG EAST Title on Friday

No. 2 seed Blue Demons open against No. 7 Creighton in quarterfinals
CHICAGO – Coach Mark Ardizzone and his Blue Demons will be shooting for their fourth BIG EAST title in the last six years when they open the BIG EAST Women's Tennis Championship at 11:30 a.m. (CT) Friday against Creighton.
DePaul is seeded No. 2 at the postseason tournament in Cayce, S.C. while Creighton is No. 7. Xavier comes into the Cayce (S.C.) Tennis & Fitness Center as the top seed.
Creighton (9-12, 2-3 in the BIG EAST) advanced to Friday's quarterfinals after a 4-0 victory over No. 10 Providence in a first-round match on Thursday.
Saturday's semifinals are set for 11:30 a.m. (CT), and Sunday's championship showdown that will be broadcast by the BIG EAST Digital Network with John Fanta on the call is set for 11:30 a.m. The BIG EAST Network can be accessed at foxsportsgo.com.
Friday's quarterfinal is a rematch of the Blue Demons' regular-season finale last Sunday when they finished off Creighton 6-1 in Omaha, Neb.
Leading the way for the 2018 BIG EAST runner-up who are 8-11 overall and 6-2 in conference this season is BIG EAST Athlete of the Week Keisha Clousing. The senior from Wheaton Warrenville South has won three in a row and is 8-2 in her last 10 matches.
In the dual-match season, Clousing is 11-5 in the No. 1 singles position and 6-1 against conference opponents. She was dominant last weekend powering to a pair of singles and doubles wins. She only dropped one game in singles play after beating Creighton's Ashley Ishimura 6-0, 6-1.
Teammate Aspasia Avgeri finished the dual season going 7-1 against conference opponents and Marija Jovicic was 4-3. Avgeri has won four in a row and is 8-2 in her last 10 singles matches.
In doubles, the combo of Clousing and Lenka Antonijevic is 8-4 in the dual season and was a perfect 5-0 facing BIG EAST competition. They have won their last three doubles assignments and are 8-2 in the last 10.
The Milica Tesic/Maddie Yergler duo was 4-2 in the regular season and 3-1 in conference. They have gone 4-2 in their last six matches.
Ardizzone & Co. advanced to the last year's title match before falling to St. John's.
Xavier comes to the Palmetto State as the early favorite riding an 18-match winning streak. The Musketeers are 20-2 overall and went 8-0 against BIG EAST competition. Included in that perfect league season is a 6-1 victory over DePaul.
Marquette is the No. 3 seed with an overall record of 12-9 and 4-2 in conference. Defending champion St. John's is seeded fourth with a 12-6 record, 5-2 in the BIG EAST.
