Blue Demons Set School Records in Sunshine State

Walker breaks school record in 400-meter dash; Nolan sets program mark in triple jump.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A pair of school records highlighted the men's and women's track & field teams' spring break competitions in Florida at the 2019 Pepsi Florida Relays and Embry-Riddle Spikes Classic. Kiersten Walker garnered the school record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.46 at the meet hosted by the University of Florida.
The mark put her 17th on the NCAA West Preliminary list and 52nd on the national stage. The meet also saw Alexia Brooks earn the top spot in the BIG EAST in the 100-meter hurdles with an impressive 13.48 finish. Brooks also earns the 17th-place spot on the NCAA West Preliminary list and 32nd nationally.
Rounding out the competition in Gator country was Jade Gates who placed 4th in a field of over 30 competitors with a hammer throw mark of 56.75 meters. Caroline Muller, Kyle Decker and Isabel Ingram along with the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Ingram, Laura Edwards, Rutendo Chimbaru and Walker rounded out the roster for the Blue Demons. Among the high-level competition was Iowa, Connecticut, Ohio State, Indiana, Columbia, Maryland, Clemson and more.
At the Embry-Riddle Spikes Classic in Daytona, Jade Nolan's 12.22-meter triple jump was good for gold. Nolan's podium-topping performance earned her a spot in program history as she set the new school record while also earning the top spot among conference competitors. Her mark also puts her 39th on the NCAA West Preliminary list.
On the men's side, Henry Larkin earned first place in the 400-meter dash, clocking in a time of 47.35. His performance also earned him the top spot in the league and was good for 26th on the national preliminary list.
Jules Gueguen ran a personal record 1:52.54 in the 800-meter run at the meet that saw competition from 31 collegiate teams including international competitors from Puerto Rico and Paraguay.
Rounding out the competition on the shore was Laura Edwards and Rutendo Chimbaru in the 400-meter dash marking times of 56.48 and 57.44, respectively.
