Men's Tennis Stifled by St. John's

CHICAGO -- The DePaul men's tennis team came up short on Friday night when the St. John's Red Storm visited Lincoln Park.

The Johnnies (12-5, 2-0) jumped out to a quick start over the Blue Demons (10-11, 4-2) en route to their second BIG EAST victory of the spring.

St. John's took the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and 3 despite the best efforts of Boris Spanjaard and Christopher Casati who claimed a win at the No. 1 spot over Andrei Crapcenco and Luka Sucevic.

The Red Storm took the first four singles matches to put the match out of reach 5-0, before the Blue Demons surged to win the final two matches.

Spanjaard and Casati followed up on their doubles victory with singles victories of their own. Spanjaard returned to his winning ways on the singles side at No. 2 with his victory over Alan Nunez Aguilera, 7-6 (4), 7-5. Casati added to the Blue Demon tally with a grueling 4-6, 7-6(5), 1-0 (3) win over Dusan Vukicevic at the No. 4 position.

The Blue Demons will honor the program's lone senior, Conor O'Meara, on Saturday when DePaul takes on Drake at 6:30 p.m. CT at Lakeshore Sport and Fitness.
