Women's basketball, women's cross country, men's golf, softball and men's tennis among top 10 percent
CHICAGO – Five DePaul programs were recognized with Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA for having multi-year Academic Performance Rate (APR) scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. Women's basketball, women's cross country, men's golf, softball and men's tennis were all recognized by the NCAA.
The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the ongoing academic performance for each team in every sport. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years.
Women's basketball picked up the recognition for the 14th straight year and the program is just one of 73 teams from all sports that have earned the recognition in every year of program.
The golf and softball teams were honored for the 13th time in 14 years while women's cross country achieved the recognition for the fourth time overall and third straight year. Men's tennis was honored for the second consecutive year and third time overall.
DePaul's highest total is seven teams in 2010-11 and 2011-12 after having six teams earn the honor in 2004-05, 2009-10, 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17.
Largely as a result of an increase in perfect scores, teams earning Public Recognition Awards increased to 1,328, up by 44 from the previous academic year. APRs for programs in the top 10 percent ranged from 987 to a perfect 1,000, and the number of teams posting perfect scores increased to 1,214, marking an increase of 26 teams from last year.
Of the teams recognized, 471 competed in men's or mixed sports, and 857 competed in women's sports.
APR scores for all Division I teams will be released May 8. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.
