CHICAGO – Living up to its primary goal of succeeding on the court and in the classroom, DePaul women's tennis was honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Thursday.
The Blue Demons were named an ITA All-Academic Team, and their 3.78 team grade-point average easily surpassed the qualifying mark of 3.20.
It is the 12th year in a row DePaul has earned the academic accolade.
In addition, Lenka Antonijevic, Aspasia Avgeri, Marija Jovicic, Alina Kuzmenkova and Milica Tesic were honored as ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athletes after compiling a 3.5 or higher GPA.
They played a critical role in securing DePaul's fourth BIG EAST Championship title and NCAA Championship berth in the last six years.
None more so than Kuzmenkova, who maintained her poise after going down 3-0 in the final set of the decisive match and rallying for a 6-3 victory that propelled the Blue Demons to a 4-3 win over No. 1 seed Xavier for the tournament championship.
Avgeri was named All-BIG EAST First Team while both Jovicic and Kuzmenkova were selected to the All-BIG EAST second team. Jovicic won all her singles and doubles matches at the BIG EAST Championship on her way to winning the Most Outstanding Player award.
Tesic was instrumental in two winning Blue Demon doubles tandems. She teamed with Maddie Yergler to go 4-2 including 3-1 in the BIG EAST season and combined with Jovicic to finish with a 4-3 overall mark.
Antonijevic paired with Keisha Clousing for a team-best 11-5 doubles mark, and the duo went 5-0 against BIG EAST opponents.
