2019 NCAA tournament team hands DePaul a 5-2 loss on Friday

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Boris Spanjaard and Luuk Wassenaar came through with wins on Friday but it wasn't enough for the Blue Demons.

They each scored a team point in a 5-2 loss to Florida Gulf Coast at the FGCU Tennis Complex.

Spanjaard grinded out a tough 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 10-8 decision over Marcelo Tebet at No. 3 singles. Wassenaar also hung tough to outlast Pedro Maciel 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.

But DePaul lost the other four singles matches and the doubles point in dropping to 2-4 on the season. Florida Gulf Coast advanced to the NCAA tournament last year.

Coach Matt Brothers and his team will look to bounce back on Saturday with a match against Florid Atlantic in Boca Raton, Fla.
