Blue Demons face Florida Gulf Coast on Friday and Florida Atlantic on Saturday
CHICAGO – There's nothing like jetting out of town with snowfall blanketing the area and that's exactly what coach Matt Brothers and his men's tennis team are doing on Thursday.
The Blue Demons (2-3) will head south for nonconference matches Friday and Saturday in the Sunshine State, leading off with a 4 p.m. matchup against Florida Gulf Coast (2-3) in Fort Myers at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
Right after that, DePaul heads over to Boca Raton for a 2 p.m. match Saturday against Florida Atlantic (3-5). The weather forecast calls for partly sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s.
Brothers & Co. are coming off a split last weekend, dropping a nail-biter to Purdue on the Boilermakers' home court 4-3 before bouncing back with a 4-0 win over Toledo in West Lafayette, Ind.
Senior Boris Spanjaard went 4-0 last weekend in singles and doubles, and his singles win last Saturday clinched the Toledo match. It was impressive because DePaul had very little rest having just finished up against Purdue.
Christopher Casati leads his team with a 10-6 record in singles while Spanjaard is beginning to heat up having won three in a row.
That combination of Casati and Spanjaard has been dynamic in doubles, racking up a 14-5 mark on the season and going 3-1 in the dual-match season thus far.
