Romeo Weems' 20 points leads three in double figures as Blue Demons knock off Crusaders
CHICAGO -- DePaul started hot from the field and never looked back in a 77-58 rout of visiting Valparaiso on Saturday afternoon at Wintrust Arena. Three Blue Demons finished in double figures led by 20 points from Romeo Weems.
Charlie Moore added 14 points and five assists while Pauly Paulicap flirted with a double-double on 11 points and nine boards.
DePaul (2-4, 0-4 BIG EAST) hit six of their first eight shots including a perfect four-for-four from long range by four different Blue Demons to race out to a 19-7 lead.
A Darious Hall steal and the ensuing runout by Weems with 9:01 remaining in the first half snapped a 5:35 scoring drought for the Blue Demons and broke open a 13-1 run over the next two and a half minutes.
The Blue Demons turned seven Crusader turnovers into 10 points in the first 20 minutes of action to lead 41-26 at the break.
Stymied by early miscues, DePaul used a 20-1 run spanning six and a half minutes while holding the Crusaders without a field goal for seven minutes to create separation and claim the victory.
Eron Gordon netted a team-high 12 points for Valparaiso.
