DePaul Athletics partnering with campus community to offer area at Wish Field for students in residence halls
CHICAGO – During the first two weeks of winter quarter 2021, DePaul will be observing a 14-day quarantine period to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Like everyone in Chicago and around the world, the university community has faced many challenges and this quarantine period to begin the academic quarter presents another new challenge for everyone.
DePaul is working hard to promote the health and safety of our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, DePaul Athletics, in partnership with the Departments of Residential Education, Housing, Dining and Student Centers, the Office of Health Promotion and Wellness and the Student Government Association, have teamed up to create a Mental Health Break Area at Wish Field beginning on Saturday, Jan. 9 through Friday, Jan. 15 for students quarantined in residence halls on campus. This space will allow students to get outside of the confines of their room for fresh air in a safe and controlled environment. A number of safety protocols including masking, physical distancing and a confirmed negative COVID-19 test will be in place, among other precautions.
"Providing our on-campus students with this opportunity to safely leave their residence halls, even for a short time is something we can all look forward to as we know this quarantine period can be difficult. We are committed to not only the physical health of our DePaul Community but the mental health as well." said Rick Moreci, Director of Housing, Dining and Student Centers.
Students quarantining in residence halls on campus will be provided further details, including a link to register to utilize this space, via email this week.
"We're pleased to work with our campus partners to create a safe and controlled environment for all students living on campus to visit if they need to alleviate some of the stresses associated with quarantine. I am thankful for the diligent efforts of the campus community as we all work together—as one DePaul—to support our students during this unique time." said Director of Athletics, DeWayne Peevy.
DePaul reminds all students that University Counseling Services is operating remotely and also available at this time. Counselors are available for support, crisis management, consultation and community referrals. If you would like to be contacted by a counselor, please call (773) 325-7779 or (312) 362-6923. For more information, visit the University Counseling Services website.
