Brickman Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll

Brickman helped the Blue Demons to a 1-0-1 week in BIG EAST action
CHICAGO - DePaul men's soccer defender Matthew Brickman was named to the BIG EAST honor roll, as announced by the conference on Monday. Brickman led the DePaul defensive unit in the Blue Demons shutout win over Creighton and in the 1-1 2OT draw at Providence last week.
Brickman and the rest of the DePaul defense held Creighton to just five shots and only allowed one on goal in the Blue Demons' win on Wednesday. Saturday night, Brickman helped defend 19 total shots and allowed only four to end up on target against No. 25 Providence. Brickman has commanded the defense alongside centerback Grant Herbek, shutting down plenty of Friar attacking attempts in the later stages of the grueling road match.
The Blue Demon senior has embraced a leadership role on the DePaul backline this fall. Brickman played mostly in the midfield during the spring campaign and has helped bolster the DePaul defense during the 2021 season. Brickman, a captain alongside Jake Fuderer and Jack Richards, has helped the Blue Demons to their highest win total during the Plotkin era. DePaul holds a 6-4-1 record and a 2-1-1 clip in conference play this season.
Brickman has earned two weekly honor roll recognitions this fall. The senior defender also earned a spot after helping the Blue Demons contain the Bradley Braves in a 2-1 win back on Sept. 10. DePaul continues their BIG EAST slate this week, hosting Seton Hall on Wednesday and traveling to Milwaukee to face Marquette on Saturday evening.
