Iaquinto Prevails Friday at Bulldog Cup

Freshman captures singles opener at tournament hosted by Drake
DES MOINES, Iowa – DePaul's three-man contingent opened play Friday at the Bulldog Cup hosted by Drake.
A trio of freshmen represented the Blue Demons are a fourth player, Phasu Sirinit, could not play because of illness.
It turns out the Bulldog Cup is not being played in a Davis Cup format.
Iaquinto came through for coach Matt Brothers with a 3-6, 6-3, (12-10) comeback win over Victor Spolidorio of Northern Illinois.
Sven Moser lost his singles match to Olle Sonesson of Drake while NIU's Mikko Malinen got past DePaul's Jona Gitschel.
The Blue Demons dropped their doubles match to the host Bulldogs.
Brothers was encouraged by the quality of tennis from his inexperienced first-year players.
"Only one win today, but it doesn't matter with a process-based approach," Brothers said. "The guys all played great tennis, got out of their comfort zones on both the doubles and singles court and made improvements to their games."
