Senior middle blocker Donna Brown led the Blue Demons defensive effort with four blocks.
UConn saw three hitters notch double figures with Caylee Parker leading the way with 14 kills and one error.
How it Happened:
Set One: UConn jumped out to an early 12-7 lead before a 4-0 run by the Blue Demons brought DePaul within one at 12-11. A termination from Bailey Nelson put the visitors in front 17-16 before the Huskies later rattled off three in a row to take a 22-19 lead and force a DePaul timeout. Out of the break, Karl terminated to bring the deficit back to two at 22-20. Consecutive Blue Demon blocks in the middle knotted the score at 23 apiece before a service error and Parker kill clinched the first set for the Huskies.
Set Two: DePaul opened the second set on an 8-3 run capped by a Rachel Krasowski service ace. The Huskies returned with a 6-1 spurt of their own to knot the score at nine apiece. Connecticut rattled off four points in a row with Mia Ruffolo behind the service line to pull in front 17-14. A Brown kill maintained the deficit at 20-17 before UConn took five of the next six points to take a 2-0 lead on the match.
Set Three: The Blue Demons responded with a 7-2 run to open the third set. Connecticut won six of the next seven points to knot the score at eight. DePaul utilized a 3-0 run with kills from Pressly and Meredith Wallace to pull ahead 20-16. A Pressly kill put DePaul on top 24-21 before three consecutive attack errors from the Blue Demons tied up the decisive set at 24 apiece. A Price kill put DePaul in the driver's seat 25-24 until Connecticut took three of the next five points to claim the match 3-0.
From Head Coach Marie Zidek: "It's disappointing to lose a match 0-3 when you do a great job of weathering the serve and pass ebbs and flows. We did a great job swinging out of system and in our serve game. We just couldn't produce enough balanced offense to beat a good UConn team that wins in dig to transition. Donna did a great job tonight leading this team and being a force at the net. Jill produced some kills that were critical at keeping us in this battle. I'm excited to watch others around her continue to elevate their impacts. We are still in a great spot to control our own destiny, we still need to reach higher with our complete game to win the big match."
Up Next: The Blue Demons will head home to Lincoln Park to host Providence and Creighton at McGrath-Phillips Arena Oct. 29-30. Friday's match with the Friars is set for 7 p.m. while Saturday's matchup with the Bluejays is slated for 6 p.m.
