Two Men's Tennis Tandems Advance at Redbird Invitational

Iaquinto/Gitschel and Huck/Minsaas in Saturday's winners' bracket semifinals
NORMAL, Ill. – In the Davis Cup format being utilized at the Redbird Invitational, men's tennis teammates are paired up to play two singles and one doubles match against opposing teams.
Whoever wins two of the three matches advances to the next round.
On Friday, two DePaul tandems moved onto the semifinal round while the third duo ended up in the consolation bracket.
In the Black Flight, Matteo Iaquinto and Jona Gitschel swept past Saint Louis 3-0 with Iaquinto beating Jonathan Sadowski 6-0, 6-1 while his partner took down Kushal Marri 6-3, 6-3. The Blue Demons won in doubles 8-4.
In the Leon Huck and Lars Peder Minsaas advanced to the Red Flight semifinals after defeating the UIC duo of Pelle Strandberg and Francesco Tacconi 2-1. They racked up the winning points behind Minsaas' 7-5, 6-7, 10-8 triumph over Tacconi and an 8-7 victory in doubles.
Despite Phasu Sirinit's 6-2, 6-2 decision over Anthony Nguyen in the White Flight, Sirinit and Sven Moser fell 2-1 to Anthony Nguyen and Gustavo Schwebel of UIC. They will try to win out in the Consolation Bracket.
Saturday's semifinals in the Black Flight pits Iaquinto and Gitschel against UIC's Ammar Wazir and Kevin Kruzel. In the Red Flight, it's Huck and Minsaas versus Drake's Olle Sonesson and Matt Clegg.
In the White Flight Consolation semifinals, Moser and Sirinit face Donovan Ecarma and Michael Staff from Bellarmine.
