Jacobson's challenge one of many opportunities for donors to impact DePaul during the Blue Demon Challenge
CHICAGO – DePaul Alum Marc Jacobson (BUS '86) has made Dreaming Big a reality for the Blue Demon Challenge. Jacobson has combined two of his passions in DePaul University Athletics and the Jesse White Tumblers to create the Reach Back to Pull Others Forward Challenge with a $240,000 dollar for dollar match for Thursday's Blue Demon Challenge.
Jacobson, who literally wore the Blue Demon suit for one basketball season while he was a student at DePaul, has been inspired by the work that has been done by DePaul and the Jesse White Tumblers to impact Chicago by providing educational opportunity.
"These young men and women are amazing ambassadors of Chicago," Jacobson said. "I wanted to see if I can marry these two great institutions to see what synergies we can make to impact Chicago."
Jacobson approached Director of Athletics DeWayne Peevy about the opportunity to provide a full scholarship for an alum of the Jesse White Tumblers to attend DePaul University and work in the DePaul Athletics.
"I jumped at the idea to be a part of such an amazing partnership," Peevy said. "For me to be able to make an impact on the life of a young person by training them on the ins and outs of intercollegiate athletics will be life changing."
The Blue Demon athletics director added the additional significance of working with the Jesse White Tumblers.
"The young men and women who perform for the Jesse White Tumblers are uniquely qualified to be part of our team here at DePaul," Peevy said. "The values of hard work and dedication that Jesse White infuses in his Tumblers will be a great addition to our department."
The discussion about the creation of the $240,000 Marc Jacobson Blue Demon Award quickly launched into a deeper discussion of the sustainability of future programming and expansion after this initial initiative focused on a single student.
As a result, Jacobson decided to leverage his gift through the creation of the Reach Back to Pull Others Forward Challenge for the Blue Demon Challenge. To make a gift to The Reach Back to Pull Others Forward Challenge, go to challenge.depaul.edu/athletics.
The Blue Demon Challenge is DePaul's one-day giving challenge which will be held on Thursday, Feb. 11. More details can be found at challenge.depaul.edu.
