Women's Tennis Comes Up Short at Wichita State

DePaul's 5-2 setback Wednesday concludes spring break trip through Kansas
WICHITA, Kan. – DePaul women's tennis finished up its three-day, spring break trip through Kansas on Wednesday with a 5-2 setback at Wichita State.
The Blue Demons dropped to 7-3 on the dual-match season while Wichita State is 6-12 with six of those losses coming to nationally ranked opponents.
Aspasia Avgeri and Maddie Yergler began the day at the Coleman Tennis Complex with a 6-0 victory over Alexandra Lazarova and Natsumi Kurahashi at No. 3 doubles. That extended their doubles winning streak to six.
But the Shockers came back and won the next two matches by identical 6-4 scores to claim the doubles point.
Avgeri followed up her doubles success with a 5-7, 7-5, 5-4 (retired) win over Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva at No. 1 singles. Avgeri has now won six in a row playing exclusively in the top spot all season.
Lenka Antonijevic followed Avgeri's lead with a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 3 singles over Ting-Ya Hsu.
But Wichita State came out on top in the other four singles matches.
Coach Marisa Arce and her team are back on their home court Lakeshore Sport & Fitness on Sunday for a 5 p.m. match against BIG EAST adversary Butler.
