Blue Demons Blank Butler 4-0 in BIG EAST Quarterfinals

Advance to Saturday semifinal match against Villanova
CAYCE, S.C. – One down, two to go for DePaul in its bid for a repeat BIG EAST women's tennis title.
The No. 2-seeded Blue Demons opened BIG EAST Championship play Friday with a 4-0 quarterfinal victory over No. 7 Butler at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center.
They will face No. 3 Villanova (6-3) in Saturday's semifinals with first serve set for 8 a.m. Villanova eliminated No. 6 Creighton 4-0.
DePaul (10-4) started out fast claiming the doubles point and never looked back.
Marija Jovicic and Yuliya Kizelbasheva along with the tandem of Aspasia Avgeri and Maddie Yergler defeated their Butler doubles opponents by identical 6-1 scores.
Alina Kuzmenkova scored her team's second match point after a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Butler's Lauren Padgett at No. 2 singles.
No. 1 singles player Aspasia Avgeri won her 10th match in a row by a 6-0, 6-4 score over Natalie Boesing. Avgeri (11-2) has not lost in 11 weeks.
The match clincher came courtesy of Maddie Yergler with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Lauren Marx at No. 6.
Saturday's semifinal will be the first time coach Marisa Arce's program has faced Villanova this season. The Wildcats won all five of their BIG EAST matches beating St. John's, Providence, Connecticut, Georgetown and Seton Hall.
