Two Blue Demons record individual victories, men win 4x100 relay
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The DePaul track and field teams closed out competition at the Clark Wood Invitational on Saturday afternoon with two individual victories and a win in the men's 4x100m relay. The Blue Demons saw a total of four top-three finishes in Saturday's events.
"After some solid performanes and a bit of a team reset on Friday, we came out ready to embrace the situation and elevate our competitiveness," said head coach David Dopek. "The situation, to be sepecific, was a chilly and rainy day from start to finish. While the weather was not great for our anticipated performances, it did allow us to work on 'our fight'".
Kiersten Walker won the 400m with a season-best time of 55.02. Walker secured the win after finishing second in the event at last weekend's Gibson Invitational with a 55.05 mark.
Kyle Mastrangeli took home the title in the 100m dash with a 10.75 finish while Adam Nelson finished third at 11.01.
The Blue Demons won the 4x100 relay with a time of 40.91. Mastrangeli, Brendan Van Voorhis, Ashton Colaire and Adam Nelson comprised the winning squad.
Jarel Terry clocked a 48.56 in the 400m to turn in a third-place finish.
The 1500m saw a pair of sixth place finishes with Olivia Borowiak finishing at 4:38.83. on the women's side and Shane Knanishu at 3:51.44 on the men's side.
In the hurdles, Isabel Ingram finished fifth with a time of 14.16w in the 100m event. On the men's side, Colaire took home sixth with a time of 14.55w.
Mackenna Orie threw 47.27m in the discus to pick up a fifth-place finish.
"I challenged our team to overcome the weather limitations and just compete. The result was seeing a team that started to show a collective fight," said Dopek. "There were many individauls who made finals, several meet winners and a whole host of individuals who did not let the weather deter them from having a measure of success."
The Blue Demons will wrap up the regular-season competition schedule with a trip to Milwaukee, Wis. for the Marquette Invitational on May 1 before competing at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships on May 14 and 15.
"The next three weeks are going to be critical in our team development as we prepare to return to the conference outdoor championships," said Dopek.
