Blue Demons to Send Eight to NCAA Preliminary Championships

DePaul will compete in seven individual events along with the men's 4x100m relay
CHICAGO - DePaul track and field will send eight student-athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field West Prelims later this week. The Blue Demons will be represented in College Station, Texas, from May 26-29 with the hopes of qualifying for next month's NCAA Championships.
DePaul's Kiersten Walker, who was one of six Blue Demons to qualify for the NCAA Prelims back in 2019, will compete in the women's 400m dash after posting a qualifying time (53.53) at the BIG EAST Championships. Walker ran a 54.55 in the event at the NCAA Prelims back in 2019.
Tori Carroll will compete in a pair of events later this week in College Station after posting qualifying marks in the long jump and the 100m dash. Carroll logged a leap of 6.15m in the long jump at the Marquette Invitational and posted a season-best time of 11.52 in the 100m at the conference championships to qualify. Carroll will be making her first appearance in an NCAA postseason meet.
Also on the women's side, DePaul's Mackenna Orie and Rebecca Chouinard will both compete in field events. Orie will compete in the shot put and the discus while Chouinard qualified in the hammer throw after winning the BIG EAST Championship on May 14. Meanwhile, Orie earned BIG EAST Most Outstanding Field Performer for her pair of podium finishes at the conference championships.
On the men's side for DePaul, Kyle Mastrangeli will run in the 100m dash at the NCAA Prelims. Mastrangeli posted his qualifying mark at the Louisville Invitational on April 2. Mastrangeli will also participate in the Blue Demons 4x100m relay which has qualified for the NCAA Prelims meet. The Blue Demons group of Mastrangeli, Brendan Van Voorhis, Ashton Colaire and Adam Nelson will compete later this week and hold the 20th-fastest seed time in the west region.
Following this week's preliminary meet, any qualifying Blue Demons will head to Eugene, Ore. for the NCAA Outdoor Championships from June 9-12.
