DePaul Track & Field Squads Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Recognition

Six Blue Demons named All-Academic Athletes
CHICAGO – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the recipients of the 2021 NCAA Division I All-Academic Awards. The recognition honors both teams and individuals who stood out in competition and in the classroom.
The men's team posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.389 to make the list of 193 Division I programs honored. The Blue Demons joined six other BIG EAST teams on the men's side including Butler, Connecticut, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, and Villanova.
DePaul's women's squad finished the season with a cumulative team GPA of 3.609 to be honored for their academic excellence. The team ranked in the top-35 of all Division I GPA's and third among the eight conference programs to earn the distinction.
The women's team has now earned the honor for the 13th straight year while the men's team has claimed the recognition for the seventh consecutive season and 12th time in the last 13 years.
Earning individual awards on the men's side were Adam Nelson and Brendan van Voorhis and on the women's side Tori Carroll, Rebecca Chouinard, Mackenna Orie and Kiersten Walker.
Nelson and van Voorhis represented DePaul at the NCAA West Prelims as members of the 4x100m relay. The pair along with teammates Ashton Colaire and Kyle Mastrangeli finished second at the BIG EAST Championships and broke the program record on two occasions including in College Station, Texas with a mark of 39.90.
Chouinard set a personal best record of 60.80m to claim the BIG EAST Outdoor crown and qualify for the West Prelims. Throws teammate Mackenna Orie earned Women's Field Athlete of the Meet at the conference competition after winning the shot put with a toss of 15.10m. At Prelims, Orie set a school record in the discus with a 51.58m mark. On the track, Carroll won the women's 100m title in personal and program best fashion with a mark of 11.52. The sophomore competed in both the long jump and the 100m dash in College Station. Walker qualified for the NCAA meet after finishing second in the 400m dash at the BIG EAST Championships, breaking her own personal record, with a time of 53.53.
To qualify for an All-Academic honor, a team must earn a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher. An individual student-athlete must have a 3.25 GPA and must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
