Cruz made eight saves in DePaul's win on Saturday
CHICAGO - DePaul men's soccer goalkeeper Gandhi Cruz was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll on Monday, as announced by the conference. Cruz made eight saves in the Blue Demons' 3-1 win over Oakland on Saturday afternoon.
Cruz was forced to make a handful of key stops in the first half on Saturday afternoon, denying the Golden Grizzlies on early offensive chances. After a Santiago Rodriguez goal, the Blue Demons held a 1-0 lead at the break behind six first-half Cruz saves.
Cruz ended up making eight saves in the Blue Demons 3-1 win and DePaul was able to improve to 4-2. The sophomore keeper and the rest of the DePaul defense have teamed up to deny opponents of multiple goals in each game since the season opener versus Loyola.
Cruz has now earned BIG EAST honor roll recognition twice this season. He also earned the BIG EAST nod after a shutout versus Wisconsin on Sept. 5. The Aurora, Ill. native has posted three six-plus save performances this fall.
