Griggs, Yalovenko Lead Blue Demons in Third Round at Valpo Fall Invite

Artemiy Yalovenko and David Griggs post rounds of 74 to lead Blue Demons in final round
CHESTERTON, Ind. – Artemiy Yalovenko was the top finisher for DePaul as the Blue Demons got through a weather-delayed third round on Tuesday to complete competition at the Valpo Fall Invitational. Yalovenko put together his best round of the event over the final 18 holes while the team finished in eighth place.
Yalovenko carded a two-over score of 74 on Tuesday to finish the event with a total of 230 (+14) that placed him in a tie for 29th place. Alex Vekich followed Yalovenko in a group in 40th place. Vekich posted a 77 in the third round to follow consecutive rounds of 79 for a tournament score of 235 (+19).
David Griggs was the biggest mover on the leaderboard for DePaul on Tuesday as he jumped 13 spots to finish in a tie for 46th place. Griggs matched Yalovenko with a 74 in the final round and he posted an overall total of 237 (+21). On Monday, Griggs turned in rounds of 83 and 80 at Sand Creek CC.
Grant Boyson was in 51st place and Aarjav Patel finished in a group in 52nd to round out the DePaul contingent. Boyson recorded a tournament total of 240 (+24) after a final round score of 83 while Patel's third round score of 78 gave him a 54-hole total of 241 (+25).
After starting the day in 10th place, the Blue Demons moved up two spots to eighth with their best team round of the tournament at 303 (+15). DePaul posted a team score of 934 (+70) as the Blue Demons passed North Dakota and Western Illinois in the final round. Wright State claimed the team title at 854 (-10) while Wright State's Mikkel Mathiesen earned medalist honors with a tournament score of 211 (-5).
DePaul continues the fall portion of the 2021-22 season next week at the Zach Johnson Invitational. Drake is the host of the two-day, three-round event at Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines, Iowa on Sept. 27-28.
