Blue Demons ready for two rounds on Monday and a third round on Tuesday in West Des Moines, Iowa
CHICAGO – The DePaul golf team continues the 2021-22 season at the Zach Johnson Invitational on Monday and Tuesday. The Blue Demons opened the season last week at the Valpo Fall Invitational and conclude the fall portion of the schedule with a pair of October events in Ohio.
The Zach Johnson Invitational is set for three rounds over two days at Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines, Iowa. Glen Oaks features a par-71 layout over 6,898 yards. Monday's play begins at 8:30 a.m. CT with a shotgun start for 36 holes followed by a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday for the third round. Live scoring is available at BirdieFire.com.
Joining the Blue Demons and host Drake are Butler, Creighton, Eastern Kentucky, Houston Baptist, IUPUI, Loyola Chicago, North Dakota, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, St. Thomas, Southern Illinois, Valparaiso, Western Illinois. DePaul's lineup this week includes Noah Kolar, Grant Boyson, Conor Glennon, Alex Vekich and Nik Gatmaytan.
Yalovenko Back as Top Returner: Artemiy Yalovenko was the top performer last season for the Blue Demons with a team-best scoring average of 73.87. He was the top finisher for DePaul in two of the final three events last spring that included a tie for 12th place at the Dayton Flyer Intercollegiate.
Fall Slate Features Four Tournaments: DePaul is scheduled to play four events around the Midwest in the first half of the 2021-22 season. Following the opening tournament at the Valpo Fall Invitational, DePaul travels to West Des Moines, Iowa next week for the Zach Johnson Invitational hosted by Drake. Two October events take the Blue Demons to Ohio starting Oct. 4-5 at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational hosted by Cleveland State. The fall schedule concludes on Oct. 18-19 at the Xavier Invitational in Cincinnati.
Looking Back: Valpo Fall Invitational (Sept. 20-21) – The Blue Demons finished eighth out of 12 teams competing in Chesterton, Ind... Artemiy Yalovenko was the top finisher in a tie for 29th at 230 (+14)... Yalovenko and David Griggs posted the best rounds of the event with each recording a 74 (+2) in the third round.
Blue Demon Debuts: Alex Vekich and Aarjav Patel made their collegiate debuts as part of the DePaul contingent competing at the Valpo Fall Invitational. Vekich is a freshman from Scottsdale, Ariz. while classmate Patel is a native of Las Vegas.
