Doubles-Doubles for Anei and Freeman-Liberty Not Enough at Marquette

Blue Demons drop 87-76 decision in Milwaukee on Tuesday
MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Despite trailing by one at half, DePaul was outscored by 10 in the second half by Marquette in an 87-76 setback at Fiserv Forum on Tuesday night. Yor Anei and Javon Freeman-Liberty each recorded double-doubles to lead the Blue Demons.

Freeman-Liberty poured in 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Anei totaled a season-high 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

After trailing 6-3 in the early minutes, the Blue Demons embarked on a 7-0 run to take a 10-6 advantage into the first media timeout. The Golden Eagles responded with a 16-4 run of their own to take a 22-14 lead before a Freeman-Liberty triple and Anei putback brought DePaul within three at 22-19.

DePaul (9-6, 0-5 BIG EAST) closed the first half on a 7-0 run after a pair of field goals from David Jones and a Brandon Johnson free throw to head into the locker room trailing 44-43. Freeman-Liberty totaled a team-high 13 points in the first half while Anei recorded six points and grabbed eight rebounds in his first start as a Blue Demon.

A Freeman-Liberty three gave DePaul a 50-48 advantage with just under 18 minutes remaining before Marquette went on a 23-6 run to take their largest lead of the game at 71-56 out of the under-12 media timeout.

Back-to-back field goals from Johnson and Freeman-Liberty pulled the Blue Demons back within 10 before five straight points from Marquette pushed the deficit back to 15 and forced a DePaul timeout.

Greg Elliott led Marquette (11-6, 3-3) with 25 points while Darryl Morsell chipped in 16.
