
Cold Second Half Costs DePaul at Creighton

Blue Demons drop road game at Creighton on Saturday afternoon
OMAHA, Neb. – A Creighton run midway through the second half proved to be the difference on Saturday afternoon as the Bluejays defeated the Blue Demons, 60-47, at CHI Health Center Omaha. Jalen Terry led DePaul with 12 points and six rebounds.
Brandon Johnson gave the Blue Demons their first lead of the afternoon on a 16-footer from the right wing. His bucket put DePaul ahead, 17-15, midway through the opening frame.
After Creighton evened the score on its next possession, a Courvoisier McCauley three-pointer followed by a short jumper from David Jones pushed DePaul head, 22-17, with seven minutes until halftime.
The Blue Demons held the Bluejays scoreless for over seven minutes and built a nine-point advantage. Creighton reeled of four straight points only to see DePaul convert two three-point plays by Jones and Yor Anei. Anei reverse lay-up and free throw off the foul sent the Blue Demons into the break with a 32-23 lead.
A dunk by Nick Ongenda put DePaul (10-8, 1-7 BIG EAST) ahead by 10 less than five minutes into the second half before Creighton (12-5, 4-2 BIG EAST) scored 10 straight points and tied the score at 38-38 with 11:32 on the clock.
Creighton's run continued as DePaul went scoreless for just over eight minutes. Overall, Creighton put together a 21-2 run that that included 17 straight points for the Bluejays.
After shooting .467 (14-30) in the first half, the Blue Demons went cold in the second half combining to go just 5-of-24 (.208) from the field.
Jones added nine points and five rebounds while Ongenda scored six points and grabbed six boards.
Ryan Kalkbrenner led Creighton with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
