
DePaul Drops Game at Villanova

Blue Demons return to Wintrust Arena this weekend against Connecticut
VILLANOVA, Pa. – DePaul battled throughout the night, but No. 14/12 Villanova pulled away in the second half as the Wildcats posted a 67-43 decision on Tuesday night. Javan Johnson scored 16 points and Jalen Terry added 10 to lead the Blue Demons.
The first 10 minutes of the game played even as a balanced scoring effort for DePaul was up against 11 straight points for Villanova's Justin Moore. Four different players scored for the Blue Demons as DePaul trailed, 19-15, following a three-point play for Johnson.
Villanova used a 7-0 flurry to build a nine-point lead, but Yor Anei scored in the paint and Johnson knocked down a three-pointer to pulled the Blue Demons to within four at 24-20 with six minutes until halftime.
Over the final six minutes, the Wildcats built a 15-point advantage before the Blue Demons held Villanova scoreless for the last two minutes of the half and trailed, 35-22, at intermission.
DePaul (10-9, 1-8 BIG EAST) closed to within six points with an 8-3 run midway through the second half. Courvoisier McCauley scored four points during the run and his basket in the lane made the score 43-36 at the 10:03 mark.
The would be as close as the Blue Demons would get for the remainder of the evening as Villanova built a 20-point lead in the final minutes before the score settled at 67-43.
Johnson added five rebounds and two blocked shots to his team-high 16 points. Terry scored 10 with four rebounds and three assists while Anei totaled four points, six rebounds and four blocked shots.
Moore led Villanova (15-5, 8-2 BIG EAST) with 16 points.
DePaul returns to Wintrust Arena this weekend to face Connecticut. The Blue Demons and Huskies are scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start on FS1 and WSCR (670 AM). Saturday is Blue Demon Day and men's basketball alumni day with the first 1,500 fans receiving a DePaul wall flag.
