Blue Demons Hit Season-Best .376 in Sweep of Seton Hall

Pressly, Nelson lead DePaul past Seton Hall in Saturday night victory
CHICAGO – DePaul volleyball bounced back in a big way on Saturday evening with a dominant 3-0 sweep of Seton Hall at McGrath-Phillips Arena. The Blue Demons hit a season-best .376 while quieting the Pirates to improve to 7-15 on the season and 3-7 in BIG EAST action. Â
Set scores of the match were: 25-19, 25-17, 25-21
Junior outside hitter Jill Pressly picked up her 12th double-double of the season with 18 kills and a match-high 11 digs while hitting a blistering .452. Bailey Nelson put up 10 kills at a .444 clip to go along with a pair of solo blocks.
Aly Kindelberger chipped in seven kills on the right side while Taylor Underwood put down six kills on 17 errorless swings.
Maggie Jones and Ashley Cudiamat dished out 17 and 11 assists, respectively. Libero Rachel Krasowski collected eight digs and handed out 10 assists.
Seton Hall (13-9, 4-6) was led by 11 kills from Perri Lucas.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One: Â DePaul opened a 12-6 lead in the first set after consecutive errors from the Pirates. A Bailey Nelson kill on the right side widened the advantage to 19-11 before the Blue Demons closed out the set 25-19. DePaul hit a blistering .424 in the first frame with 16 kills and just two errors while Seton Hall hit .270.
Set Two: Â The Blue Demons carried momentum into the second set, running out to a 14-4 lead including nine points unanswered. Seton Hall crept back in the set with six of the next eight points to narrow the deficit to six at 18-12. Julia Nagy dropped in a service ace before Sara Griffth and Jill Pressly provided a stuff block to give the Blue Demons set point. Pressly's 13th kill of the match provided the set victory 25-17 and a 2-0 lead on the match.
Set Three: A four-point run capped on a Nelson kill pushed DePaul's lead to 12-6 in the early going of the third set. Seton Hall would use a three-point spurt of their own to threaten at 20-17 but the Blue Demons kept the visitors at bay as Underwood gave DePaul match point and a Pirates service error clinched the set 25-21 and the sweep.
Up Next: DePaul will host No. 19 Marquette for a midweek matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at McGrath-Phillips Arena. First serve for the annual Dig Pink match is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be streamed live on FloSports. Â
