Blue Demons Compete at Illinois State University
NORMAL, Ill. – On Friday morning, Junior Shourya Verma and Sophomore Jona Gitschel finished day one of the Redbird Invitational hosted by Illinois State University.
The pair kicked off the Davis Cup style tournament with doubles at 12 p.m. CT against Illionis' Lucas Horve and Tyler Bowers. Verma and Gitschel fought hard but fell to their opponents 8-0.
After doubles, the two players split off into their singles matches. Verma competed against Horve but lost in two sets 6-2, 7-5.
Gitschel played against Bowers, but was ultimately held off 6-1, 6-1.
The two DePaul players will face off against a team from Central Florida tomorrow starting at 10 a.m. CT.
