Keyondre Young and Babacar Mbengue set to join DePaul
CHICAGO – On the first day of the national signing period, the DePaul men's basketball team signed a pair of players in Keyondre Young and Babacar Mbengue.
Young, a junior college prospect, signs with DePaul from Triton College in River Grove, Ill. where he is currently playing. Young began his collegiate career at Valparaiso where he appeared in eight games before being sidelined with an injury. Young will have three remaining years of eligibility after joining the Blue Demons.
"We're really excited to add Keyondre next season," said head coach Tony Stubblefield. "Our staff really values the experience junior college players can bring to our roster and Keyondre is no different. We look forward to watching him continue to develop this season at Triton.
Originally from Del City, Okla., Young was named the 2021 Super 5 Player of the Year by the Oklahoman after averaging 20 points per game. He helped lead Del City High School to its first basketball state title since 1980, after finishing as runners-up in 2018-19. During his high school career Young picked up several honors including 6A All-State, Big All-City First Team and Oklahoma Super 5 First Team.
Ranked as the No. 19 center in the 2023 class by 247sports.com, Babacar Mbengue comes to DePaul from Olympus Prep. A 7-footer, Mbengue is a mobile post player who caught the attention of many on the summer AAU circuit. Mbengue is a native of Senegal, where he played with the national team in the 2020 FIBA U18 African Championship.
"Babacar is a really talented young player with an incredible amount of potential," said Stubblefield. "He has developed a lot over the last year or so and we are looking forward to getting him on campus and continuing his growth. He is a strong physical presence inside and has a desire to keep learning."
