Pressly's 27 kills leads Blue Demons past Musketeers in final regular season match
CHICAGO – DePaul volleyball closed out the 2022 campaign on a high note with a 3-2 (27-25, 11-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-11) win over Xavier on Saturday night at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
Three Blue Demons finished with double-figure kills led by Jill Pressly's career outing. Pressly totaled a career-high 27 kills while picking up a match-high 16 digs for her 17th double-double this season.
Senior right side Bailey Nelson registered 13 kills and five blocks while Aly Kindelberger tallied 12 kills and five blocks of her own. Freshman middle blocker Katelynn Oxley put down a career-high 7 kills on .545 hitting.
Maggie Jones dished out 46 assists to go along with five digs and four kills. Libero Rachel Krasowski closed out her historic junior campaign with a team-high 15 digs.
Brooklyn Cink and Delaney Hogan paced Xavier's offense with 15 kills apiece.
Set One: A four-point run for the Blue Demons allowed DePaul to race out to a 12-6 lead. Kindelberger's second kill of the set widened the advantage to 17-11. The Musketeers cut the deficit to two, 20-18, before a quick sideout came on the arm of Nelson. A Julia Nagy service ace handed DePaul set point before Pressly's 10th kill of the set gave the Blue Demons set one, 27-25.
Set Two: Xavier opened the second set on an 8-2 run. The Musketeers never looked back, evening the match at 1-1 with a 25-11 set two victory.
Set Three: DePaul broke a 14-14 stalemate, winning seven of the next nine points to take a 21-16 advantage. Pressly put down her 18th kill of the match to earn DePaul a 25-20 set victory and pull ahead 2-1 on the match. The Blue Demons hit a clean .367 in the third set.
Set Four: Xavier used a four-point run to capture a 13-8 lead and further extended their advantage to 18-11 but the Blue Demons responded to cut the deficit to three, 19-16, on back-to-back points from Nelson. DePaul remained within an arm's length before the Musketeers won three of the final four points to even the match at two sets apiece.
Set Five: A Nelson and Kindelberger block put DePaul in front 9-6 but the Musketeers swiftly responded, knotting the score at 10. Back-to-back service aces from Phoenix Lee off the bench set the table for DePaul to close out the match on a 4-1 run and claim the deciding fifth set 15-11.
