Pair of Blue Demons earn conference recognition for standout 2022 campaigns
CHICAGO – A pair of Blue Demons earned All-BIG EAST honors as Jill Pressly and Taylor Underwood were recognized for their season's performance in the 2022 campaign. Pressly was a unanimous selection to the 18-member All-BIG EAST squad while Underwood landed on the All-BIG EAST Freshman Team. The league announced the awards on Tuesday following a vote of league coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.
Pressly picked up postseason honors for the third consecutive season after finishing second in the BIG EAST in kills (4.03 kps) and points (4.45 pps). The junior outside hitter totaled 17 double-doubles on the season while averaging 3.04 digs per set to finish second on the team. In league play, the Plano, Texas native took a big jump from a season ago, putting up 4.29 kills per set to improve upon a 3.21 average in BIG EAST matches in 2021. Pressly totaled six matches with 20+ kills including a 27-kill career-high outing in a five-set win over Xavier (11.19) on the final day of the regular season. She also earned All-BIG EAST honors in 2021 and All-Freshman Team recognition in 2020.
In her first season in a DePaul uniform, Underwood made an immediate impact. The Norco, Calif. native put down 2.47 kills per set to rank third on the team while also adding 36 blocks on the pins. In league play, Underwood totaled 156 kills (2.60 p/s) while collecting 33 digs and recording 16 blocks. Underwood's career-high of 18 kills came in a five-set match at Seton Hall (10.7). She earned Freshman of the Week honors on Sept. 12 after aiding the Blue Demons to the DePaul Invitational title.
The Blue Demons closed out the season 10-20 and 6-12 in BIG EAST action.
