Blue Demons Take Down No. 14 Maryland Behind Five in Double Figures

Morrow, Rimmer, Allen finish with double-doubles as Blue Demons knock off 14th-ranked Terps 76-67
Behind five players in double-figures and three with double-double performances, DePaul took down No. 14 Maryland 76-67 on Friday afternoon to open play at the Elevance Health Fort Myers Tip-Off.
Aneesah Morrow, the nation's leading scorer, led the way with 22 points and 10 boards for the 30th double-double of her career. Kendall Holmes totaled a season-high 17 points on three triples while tasked with breaking the Maryland pressure.
Senior Keke Rimmer had a strong outing, matching her career-high with 13 points while collecting a career-high 12 rebounds for her first double-double in a DePaul uniform. Jorie Allen pitched in a double-double on 10 points and a career-best 13 boards along with three assists.
Darrione Rogers rounded out the double figure scorers with 12 points, nine assists and five rebounds.
The first quarter saw Morrow record the first five points for DePaul before Holmes hit a triple to put the Blue Demons up 8-2 while simultaneously holding the Terps scoreless for a near four-minute stretch. The lead widened to 13-4 on Holmes' second three before Maryland closed the gap. DePaul led 15-10 after the first quarter.
After tracking down a long rebound, Allen dropped in a hook shot to give DePaul a 10-point lead. A 7-0 unanswered run from Maryland cut the advantage to three, 23-20, but the Blue Demons answered right back on an eight-point spurt from Morrow and Rimmer to go up 13 for DePaul's largest lead of the game. The Blue Demons held a 35-27 at halftime.
The Blue Demons were held scoreless for a six-minute stretch in the third quarter as Maryland swung back to take their first lead of the game 45-44. Morrow completed the successful and-one to reclaim the lead for DePaul 47-45 heading into the final 10 minutes of action.
Morrow's third triple of the game pushed the edge to 52-47 before Maryland used a 7-0 run to take a 54-52 lead. Holmes took a hard drive to the bucket and completed the three-point play before knocking down a three on the next possession as the Blue Demons regained control, in front 63-56 with five minutes left in the fourth. The Terps would not go away easy, coming back within three on consecutive buckets from Shyanne Sellers but the Blue Demons would continue to attack and make five of six free throws down the stretch to close out the win.
Faith Masonius led Maryland (4-2) with 12 points while Diamond Miller finished with 11.
