
Creighton Holds Off DePaul

Javon Freeman-Liberty and Jalen Terry each scored 18 points to lead Blue Demons
CHICAGO – Javon Freeman-Liberty and Jalen Terry each scored 18 points, but DePaul couldn't overcome cold shooting in the second half and dropped a 71-59 decision to visiting Creighton. Freeman-Liberty added 13 rebounds while Courvoisier McCauley chipped in 12 points off the bench.
DePaul trailed early before Terry scored five straight points to give the Blue Demons their first lead of the night five minutes into the game at 8-7.
The Blue Demons led for most of the first half with a McCauley free throw giving DePaul a 23-15 lead midway through the opening frame.
Over the final nine minutes of the first half, Creighton outscored DePaul (12-13, 3-12 BIG EAST) by an 18-8 margin and took a 33-31 lead at halftime.
The Bluejays maintained the advantage throughout the second half and led by as many as 11 points at the nine-minute mark. DePaul made a charge by scoring eight of game's next 12 points with Freeman-Liberty's three-point play pulling the Blue Demons to within four points with 5:50 left on the clock.
The teams traded free throws on consecutive possessions before Creighton reeled off six straight points to go up 62-52 with 3:06 to go in the game. The Bluejays stretched the lead out to 13 points in the final minute before the 71-59 final at the buzzer.
After shooting .400 (12-30) in the first half, the Blue Demons combined to shoot just .276 (8-29) over the final 20 minutes. Terry grabbed six rebounds to go with his 18 points along with a pair of assists.
Ryan Hawkins led Creighton (17-8, 9-5 BIG EAST) with 25 points and 11 rebounds.
DePaul is on the road this weekend with a Saturday night game at Seton Hall. Start time at Prudential Center in Newark is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET and the game can be seen on FS1 and heard on WSCR (670 AM).
