Blue Demons come home with a split after taking down Seattle 6-1 on Sunday
LAS VEGAS – They say if you break even after spending a weekend in Vegas---it's like money in the bank.
Way to go, Blue Demons---heading back to the Windy City even-Steven after cashing in Sunday with a 6-1 victory over Seattle at Fertitta Tennis Complex on the UNLV campus.
That was a nice bounce-back from a tough 4-3 loss to the host Rebels 24 hours earlier.
After dropping the doubles point to the Redhawks and trailing 1-0, coach Matt Brothers' team reeled off six consecutive singles wins while improving to 6-8 in the dual-match season.
Lars Peder Minsaas began the roll with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Michael Frank at No. 4 singles. Tripp Tuff followed suit by taking down Oliver Hall 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6.
Marino Jakic put DePaul up 3-1 after a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 2.
The comeback clincher came courtesy of No. 1 singles ace Vito Tonejc with his 7-5, 6-4 triumph over Seattle's best Julian Worn.
Insurance points came from Luuk Wassenaar at No. 5 singles with a 7-6(11), 6-0 straight-setter over Mats Krause and Leon Huck closing it out by defeating Veselin Kiselkov 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 3.
Unbeknownst to the "Band of Brothers," the team win enabled DePaul to take two-of-three from Seattle on Sunday as the Blue Demon softball team split two games with the Redhawks at the Montana Invitational.
After a week-long break, the men's tennis team embarks on a five-day road swing through California beginning with a March 22 match at Loyola Marymount.
