DePaul Draws Butler in Friday's BIG EAST Championship Quarterfinals

No. 4 seed beat the fifth-seeded Bulldogs 5-2 on Feb. 18 in Indianapolis
CHICAGO – After debating the merits of dual-season performances on Monday, a BIG EAST coaches committee seeded DePaul fourth in the upcoming BIG EAST Women's Tennis Championship that begins Thursday in Cayce, S.C.
Coach Marisa Arce's team will face No. 5 seed Butler in Friday's quarterfinals. Butler finished with an 8-13 record overall and went 1-2 in conference play.
The Blue Demons (7-8 overall) squared off with seven of the 10 conference opponents, finishing with a 4-3 record.
They defeated fifth-seeded Butler, No. 6 Georgetown, No. 7 Creighton and No. 10 Seton Hall and lost to No. 1 St. John's, No. 2 Marquette and No. 3 Xavier.
DePaul took down Butler 5-2 in its BIG EAST opener Feb. 18 in Indianapolis.
The Blue Demons jumped out to a 1-0 lead behind the doubles tandems of Lenka Antonijevic and Yuliya Kizelbasheva along with Hristina Djokic and Marija Jovicic. A 6-1, 6-0 sweep of Sara Lin by Jovicic at No. 3 singles made it 2-0.
Butler won the next two singles matched to deadlock the score at 2-2. But Kizelbasheva sparked a three-match Blue Demon run by defeating Natalie Boesing 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. It was Kizelbasheva's seventh-straight singles win.
Eleanor Nobbs followed with a 6-2, 6-2 straight-setter over Katie Beavin at No. 5 and Valentina Martin culminated the day with a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Hallie Leblebijian.
