Hall of Fame recognizes some of the greatest athletes, teams and staff in DePaul history
CHICAGO – The DePaul Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 1976 and has honored some of the greatest athletes, teams and staff. Its purpose is to recognize and honor those individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the achievements and distinction of DePaul University in athletics, and who have continued to demonstrate in their lives the values learned by their participation in intercollegiate athletics.
Following a review of the nomination process and creation of a new jersey retirement process, DePaul is set to welcome its newest class of inductees in 2023. Prior to that induction, the athletics department will welcome all members of the Hall of Fame back to campus this Fall as part of the 125th anniversary for DePaul University.
Among the changes to the nomination process is the creation of a 12-person Hall of Fame committee and inclusion of all Hall of Fame members as part of the selection procedure. The committee will consist of Hall of Fame members, current DePaul coaches and staff and at large members.
In addition to the modernization of the Hall of Fame nomination process, a new jersey retirement policy has been created. DePaul athletics currently has two numbers retired in men's basketball with George Mikan (No. 99) and Mark Aguirre (No. 24). Athletes that are named a National Player of the Year as recognized by the NCAA in their sport will automatically earn jersey and number retirement. Athletes with high achievement, but not a National Player of the Year can still earn jersey retirement via a voting process led by the 12-person Hall of Fame committee.
