Blue Demons to face Longhorns to raise money for Uvalde CISD Moving Forward Foundation
CHICAGO – DePaul women's basketball will travel to Austin to face Texas in a charity exhibition game on Sunday, Oct. 30 at Moody Center. All proceeds from the contest will be donated to Uvalde CISD Moving Forward Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization to support rebuilding Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas.
"Our DePaul Ball program has always loved to play great competition and the opportunity to play at Texas in an exhibition game for a great charity will do nothing but prepare us for our season" said head coach Doug Bruno. "In addition, our closed scrimmage against Iowa should have us ready to hit the ground running on opening night."
"The opportunity to do our part and lift up the Uvalde community and all those affected by the tragic events at Robb Elementary on May 24 is critical to living out the mission of Saint Vincent de Paul and answering the call of 'What must be done?'"
The exhibition is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT and will be televised by Longhorn Network. Tickets are priced at $10 for reserved seats and $6 for general admission.
The Blue Demons welcome back seven returners from a 2021-22 squad that went 22-11 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament while bringing seven newcomers into the fold. 2022 National Freshman of the Year Aneesah Morrow returns alongside starters Darrione Rogers and Kierra Collier. Junior forward Jorie Allen is back after missing last season due to injury. Bruno and his staff landed a pair of skilled transfers in Anaya Peoples (Notre Dame) and Jade Edwards (American) in addition to a five-member freshman class.
Vic Schaefer, in his third year leading the Longhorns program, will see seven letterwinners return to the Forty Acres while also welcoming seven newcomers to his squad. A season ago, Texas went 29-7 en route to a Big 12 Championship and Elite Eight appearance.
DePaul will open the regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 9 when American visits Wintrust Arena at 7 p.m. The Blue Demons will open BIG EAST play on the road at Butler on Dec. 4.
