Kizelbasheva/ Antonijevic and Carbone/Smith dominate doubles play
DEKALB, Ill. - The DePaul women's tennis team began play in 2023 at the NIU Huskie Winter Invite on Saturday. The first day of play consisted of three doubles teams and seven singles matches for the Blue Demons.
Lenka Antonijevic and Yuliya Kizelbasheva defeated Gabrielle Clairotte and Rieke Gillar, 6-2, from Marshall University in their first doubles match of the day. Antonijevic and Kizelbasheva earned their second doubles win over Iowa's Pia Kranholdt and Samantha Mannix 7-6 (7-4).
Greta Carbone and Hannah Smith continued the DePaul success in the doubles matchups, defeating Marshall's Doroteja Joksovic and Aisling McGrane, 6-4. The Carbone and Smith duo followed up with a 6-4 win over Iowa's Anya Lamoreaux and Marisa Schmidt.
In Saturday's singles competition, Eleanor Nobbs defeated Montana State's Jazmin Lerman in straight sets 6-0, 6-2. Greta Carbone and Marshall's Andjela Lopicic split sets, but Carbone was able to pick up the win 4-6, 6-2, 10-7.
The Blue Demons will continue play at NIU Huskie Winter Invite tomorrow with one round of singles and two rounds of singles beginning at 9 a.m. CT.
