
Blue Demons Fall in Five-Set Match at Butler

Team recorded a season-high 98 digs throughout play
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - DePaul volleyball fell to Butler, 2-3 (25-20, 25-17, 22-25, 22-25, 14-16), Saturday evening.Â
DePaul (11-10, 4-6 BIG EAST) was led by Jill Pressly with 17 kills and 20 digs. Audrey Klemp poured in 16 kills while Meghan Scholz tallied 10 terminations and four blocks.
Maggie Jones had a double-double, earning 11 digs and 51 assists, a new career high. Senior Rachel Krasowski totaled a new season-high with 35 digs throughout the match.
"Tough loss tonight," said head coach Marie Zidek. "Credit Butler, as they pushed back down 0-2 and we did not handle it well tonight, whereas last night we responded aggressively. Back to work on Monday to try to evolve our ability to have back to back performances as a unit."
Butler (10-11, 4-6 BIG EAST) was led by Elise Ward with 16 kills and 17 digs.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET ONE: Butler grabbed the first point of the game, but a 4-0 surge by the Blue Demons put the squad up early in the set. A block from Pressly and Scholz gave DePaul a 14-8 lead and three straight kills from Nelson and Pressly allowed the Blue Demons to extend the lead to eight points. The Bulldogs made a late push with a 4-0 run, but DePaul took the set after two Butler errors.
SET TWO: After the Bulldogs grabbed an early lead, an ace from Nagy tied the match at 4 all. A quick 6-0 run from the Blue Demons, highlighted by a Klemp solo block, put the team up by three. Two consecutive blocks from Kindelberger and Jones extended the lead, 19-13. A solo block from Scholz gave DePaul a 23-15 lead while a kill from Klemp secured the set victory.Â
SET THREE: A 3-0 surge behind blocks from Kindelberger, Nelson and Pressly, as well as a kill from Kindelberger put the Blue Demons up, 5-3. The Bulldogs took a two point lead with a 4-0 run of their own and put DePaul down by five. A 4-0 service run behind the arm of Karl tied the match at 19 each. Both teams traded points late in the set, but Butler was able to grab their first set win with a block.
SET FOUR: The Bulldogs used an early 7-1 run to take an 8-3 lead. A kill from Pressly tied the match at 11 and the Blue Demons continued their hot streak, extending their lead to two. The sides went back-and-forth in the middle of the match, but Butler took a 24-21 lead and the set win on a kill.Â
SET FIVE: Starting off up 3-1, the Bulldogs responded to tie the match. Each side traded points, but the Blue Demons found themselves down by three, 7-10. Terminations from Jones, Pressly and a block from Scholz and Klemp put DePaul up by one, but Butler was able to take the win off of three straight points.Â

DePaul returns to McGrath-Phillips Arena to host UConn and Providence on Friday, Oct. 27 and Saturday, Oct. 28. Friday's match against the Huskies is set to begin at 7 p.m. with Saturday's match against the Friars set for 4 p.m.
