CHICAGO—A lopsided third quarter powered DePaul past Lewis 68-45 in an exhibition matchup at Wintrust Arena on Sunday evening. 10 Blue Demons found the scoresheet while all 12 active players logged minutes in the final preseason tune up.
Graduate guard Anaya Peoples was dominant in all phases of the game, finishing with game-highs of 20 points and 16 rebounds while also grabbing four steals and recording three blocks. Katlyn Gilbert and Jorie Allen chipped in nine points apiece with Allen bringing down nine boards of her own.
The Blue Demons outrebounded the Flyers 59-40 while dishing out 18 assists on 26 made field goals (.692).
Peoples and Gilbert combined for 13 of DePaul's 18 first-quarter points as the Blue Demons held on to an 18-15 advantage after 10 minutes. Peoples added six rebounds in the first period while redshirt-freshman Haley Walker saw her first game action of her career after missing her freshman season with a torn ACL.
The Blue Demons opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run and stretched their lead to 13 after back-to-back triples from Brynn Masikewich and Peoples, but Lewis continued to find an answer as DePaul lead 33-26 at halftime. Peoples posted a 13-point and 10-rebound double-double through the first 20 minutes.
DePaul's full-court defensive pressure held the Flyers scoreless through the first six minutes of the third quarter as the Blue Demons put up 16 unanswered and entered the fourth quarter in front 53-30.
Charlece Ohiaeri's layup with 7:10 remaining in the fourth gave DePaul its largest lead of the night, 61-30, before the two sides traded buckets for the remainder of regulation. The freshman trio of Ohiaeri, Shakara McCline and Grace Carstensen accounted for four of DePaul's five field goals in the fourth quarter.
