
Blue Demons Nab Win Against South Dakota

Balanced scoring effort leads DePaul to victory
CHICAGO – DePaul men's basketball picked up its first win of the 2023-24 season with a 72-60 victory Tuesday evening, inside Wintrust Arena. The Blue Demons put together a balanced game that included three different double-digit scoring efforts and eight different players who scored.
Jeremiah Oden led DePaul with a season-high 16 points, followed by Caleb Murphy's 13 and K.T. Raimey's 11. Oden registered his third-consecutive game this season with double-digit scoring efforts as he also tallied five boards, three assists and two blocks.
DePaul continues to see development from Churchill Abass as the freshman recorded his first collegiate points Tuesday night. Abass ended the game with a total of eight points, seven rebounds and four blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
South Dakota (2-1) looked to control the game early, taking a 5-0 lead, before DePaul answered. The Blue Demons fired off nine unanswered points on 5-for-6 shooting for a 16-9 lead. South Dakota bounced back ahead, 20-19, following several free throws.
DePaul didn't stay behind for long, taking the lead for good on an Abass layup one possession later. The layup started another Blue Demon run before DePaul eventually ended the half on 10 unanswered points.
The Blue Demons remained in control throughout the second half, never allowing the Coyotes to inch closer than seven points. DePaul's largest lead, 14, came at 9:20 in the second period after Raimey capped off a 9-2 run with a trey. DePaul only allowed one South Dakota three-pointer in the second period, holding them 1-for-10.
OF NOTE- Eight of DePaul's nine players who appeared in tonight's game recorded at least four points.
- Elijah Fisher made his first DePaul start and second career start.
- Raimey set a new career high with five rebounds.
- DePaul held one of the nation's highest three-point percentage teams (45.8 percent entering tonight) to just 4-for-17 (23.5 percent) from deep.
- Abass has recorded four blocks in two-consecutive games now, the second-highest single-game performance in the BIG EAST.
- Henley recorded a career-high six assists, and committed zero turnovers.
- 11 of Murphy's 13 points came in the second half.

The Blue Demons will participate in the Arizona Tip Off in Glendale, Ariz. from Nov. 17-19. DePaul's first matchup will be against South Carolina on Friday, Nov. 17. Tipoff is set for 10:30 p.m. CT with coverage on CBSSN.
