No. 5 DePaul Falls in BIG EAST Semifinal to No. 1 Creighton

MILWAUKEE, WIS. - DePaul volleyball fell in the BIG EAST Tournament semifinal matchup, Saturday evening,to first-seeded Creighton, 3-0 (17-25, 20-25, 17-25).Â
DePaul (17-14, 9-9 BIG EAST) was paced by Jill Pressly on offense, totaling eight kills and chipping in five digs and a service ace. Audrey Klemp added six terminations while Hanna Karl chipped in five kills and three digs.
Rachel Krasowski led the team in digs, tallying 17 in addition to three assists. Maggie Jones and Ashley Cudiamat each tallying 12 assists and one service ace throughout the match.Â
"Really proud of this team's effort tonight," said head coach Marie Zidek. "Hats off to Creighton every time we got close, they responded with a run. That's the type of postseason experience that you learn only by participating in postseason matches. This team battled all year to get to the tournament and to come here and win a match over Xavier was a huge step forward. I also want to thank our seniors for their dedication and hardwork to leave the program in an excitable place."
Creighton (26-4, 16-2 BIG EAST) was led by Norah Sis with 12 kills.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET ONE: A quick 3-0 run by the Blue Demons, including kills from Karl and a Cudiamat ace, tied the match, 5-5. An 8-1 surge from Creighton gave them a seven-point lead. DePaul cut the lead to five, but the Bluejays continued to forge ahead. Pressly cut the lead to seven, but the Bluejays took the set win on a kill.Â
SET TWO: Each side traded runs early on in the set. A kill from Oxley put the Blue Demons up, 8-6, before Creighton responded with a 6-1 surge of their own, earning a four-point advantage. Five straight points from the Blue Demons put the team up, 16-15. Oxley's second kill of the set put DePaul within three, but Creighton took the set on a kill and an error.Â
SET THREE: A strong start to the set put the Blue Demons up, 8-6. Creighton came back to tie the match at 9-all, and led through much back-and-forth between the teams. A 7-0 run by the Bluejays, broke the tie.. Three quick points, thanks to a Creighton error and kills from Karl, cut the lead down to four. The Bluejays finished with four-straight points to secure the match
